You may not use this image for any reason The russet blonde man above you has a half-smile on his face as he looks you over. The royal finery he wears--gems on top of gold on top of silk--is so dazzling that you almost don't realize his smile doesn't extend to his eyes. But once you do notice, you can't help but stare back, looking into predatory green orbs without a trace of joy or amusement.Full Name: Unknown Nickname(s)/Title(s): "The Brass Duke"; "Lord Brass"; "Your Grace"; "Brass" (to close friends only) Race: Draconic Human ( Avalendor) Age: Appears young, and will say he is only 26 [April 3rd, DB] Sex: Male Height: 5' 11" Weight: 131 lbs. "Wasted potential surrounds us. Lend me that bauble, and let us see what it can be made to be.”
Brass is arrogant, conceited and snobbish. He's a full out fop, with a penchant for mischief and pranks. He's extremely wealthy due to his profession, and more than a little ostentatious and eccentric. He's the sort of man who'd make a big show to be noticed, and then feign that no one pays attention to him. It would be impractical to say that, beneath it all he has a good heart...because he likely doesn't. He's callous and pampered and thinks he's better than other people. In many ways he is, but that doesn't really excuse his haughty behavior. He's a prince of princes in the elite of his world, and until the day he's stripped to nothing, he won't let you forget your place beneath his boot heel.
The Brass Duke is known for his eloquence. In fact, his enemies sometimes claim that he spoke his way out of punishment with the Justiciars after a supposed murder took place; Catherine Tetler, a young burlesque woman he may or may not have shoved off a balcony in a rage. When he was younger, his suitors considered him attractive and highly charismatic, but they never realized how cautious and clever--not to mention how manipulative and sadistic--he was in playing them against each other--a talent he has cultivated ever since. (His supporters attest he finally took in Cobalt for love, but some suspect his infatuation with someone city-born was really a political move.)
While Brass willingly relinquishes some measure of power to lesser nobles in order to keep the wheels of government turning, as well as supplying the Empire's military, he excels at asserting his authority at every opportunity. With flowery words and a powerful presence, he rallies his most stalwart supporters with confidence and ease.
Brass powerfully and loudly proclaims the need to maintain hard-fought peace, while secretly planning for the next stages of possible war by creating Weapons Deals on the Black Market. Although he has put on a public show of backing away from conflict, including withdrawing troops from the Western border in 996, he has given a handful of his nobles the authority to muster and maintain "small" defense forces that he can call upon whenever his own domain is threatened.
His principality, his people, his family; Brass uses these assets to lay the foundation to ultimately claim his heart's desire--the Stellar Diadem, a lost item only an Arch Mage should ever don. No matter his words or deeds, no matter the show he puts on for the public, everything that Brass does leads him one step closer to the crown. He has no intention of letting a lasting peace stand in the way of his ultimate goal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An arcane prodigy and just plain genius, Brass is sadistic, manipulative and obsessed with power. He is a skilled tactician who not only orchestrated an Eveliegh victory over the kingdom of Namorn in the late 990s, but also halted the invasion of Maedelsi forces on Eveliegh soil. Incidentally, he utilized a small portion of Imperial farmland as a primary battlefield.
Even as a young child, Brass exhibited a duplicitous and cunning streak, as he manipulated his father--and even the Empress herself, from time to time--to get his way.
Brass was born to Sebastien and Lyria, about four years after his sister Halide, and four and six years prior to Imogen and Iago, respectively. He is named after his paternal grandfather. Brass grew up in the riches, splendor, and privileges of being royalty. His sharp wits and the fact that he is a prodigy gave him great attention, acclaim and quickly made him Lyria's favorite child (next to, of course, the beloved Imogen). His father--when they saw one another--began raising him as the Brass Family's true heir from an early stage, taking him into his confidence and grooming the young Duke in politics, while on the other hand not ignoring the others, as one might expect (much to Lyria's dissatisfaction). Brass later attended the Royal Academy, where he befriended Ira Damus and Sharon Blanc, two children of "inferior noblemen". Three years after his graduation Brass took on teaching here, all the while earning military rank and title, garnering him a fierce grip on the College of Transmutation as its master.
A true megalomaniac, Brass desired power from a very young age, suggesting publicly in open court that he would make a better Emperor than the blind heir-apparent, Princess Isabelle.
Brass relentlessly drills himself towards perfection and settles for nothing less from himself or those that serve him. He believes that power and domination are what makes a person strong. He has absolute confidence in his Draconic heritage. He has neither pity nor mercy towards those he marks as treasonous or inferior.
Brass' characteristic "Brass Codex" (a metal-bound spell book he carries at all times) symbolizes the supreme arcane power he possesses and constantly seeks to increase. Because of these skills, he is an excellent tactician, regularly displaying cunning, perception, and resourcefulness that allows him to take advantage of almost any situation. He possesses good self-control, and can lie with a straight face and no physical reactions.
